Wasted Waiting

I thought that if I waited long enough, you would come.
I thought that if, I had shown to you that I waited despite the protests, despite the pain, or abuse that followed, that you would embrace me.
I thought that when we said we loved each other, it meant something.
I thought that if I sat here with the negative, darkness that dwelled within me was ignored in the face of our love, you would love me again
I thought wrong.
You did not come back.
